Boehner on the Radio: Gov't Takeover of Health Care Raises Premiums, "Adds To Our Already-Exploding Debt"
GOP Leader Highlights Republicans' Better, Fiscally Responsible Plan to Make Health Care More Affordable and Accessible

Washington, Nov 4 - During a national radio interview on The Scott Hennen Show, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) outlined how Speaker Pelosi’s 2,032-page government takeover of health care will raise health insurance premiums, add to our already-exploding debt, and force millions of Americans off their current coverage. Republicans’ better solutions, Boehner said, would lower premiums and expand access to quality, affordable insurance without adding to the crushing debt Washington Democrats have placed on our children and grandchildren. Boehner also discussed how Speaker Pelosi’s 2,032-page government takeover of health care paves the way for taxpayer-funded abortions. Following are key excerpts from Boehner’s interview:

BOEHNER COMPARES SPEAKER PELOSI’S 2,032-PAGE GOV’T TAKEOVER OF HEALTH CARE TO REPUBLICANS’ “READABLE,” “PRACTICAL,” “COMMON-SENSE” PLAN:

“Speaker Pelosi’s now over 2,000-page government takeover of health care is going to raise the cost of health insurance and its going to add to our already exploding debt. [AUDIO]… Yes, Members ought to read the bill. It’s over 2,000 pages. You can go read the Republican bill, it’s only 219 pages. It’s readable, and it’s practical, and it’s common sense. And it’s things we can do that will lower the cost of insurance and expand coverage in our country. [AUDIO] … I am hopeful that the Speaker will allow us debate and vote on our alternative because I think it really is just a commonsense plan that is going to lower insurance costs. And frankly, it will work to reduce the federal deficit.” [AUDIO]

BOEHNER OUTLINES HOW SPEAKER PELOSI’S 2,032-PAGE GOV’T TAKEOVER OF HEALTH CARE WILL FORCE FAMILIES OFF THEIR CURRENT COVERAGE:

“A lot of people who have employer-provided coverage are going to be forced out of their plans, because all of these plans need to be re-reviewed by the federal government. They’ve been reviewed once before they were set up and now they are going to re-reviewed to make sure that the benefits meet federal standards – new federal standards. So now, we’re going to have the federal government telling employers what plans they will offer and won’t be allowed to offer.” [AUDIO]

BOEHNER SAYS SPEAKER PELOSI’S GOV’T TAKEOVER OF HEALTH CARE PAVES THE WAY FOR TAXPAYER-FUNDED ABORTIONS:

“And another big issue in this is that is allows for taxpayer funding of abortion. You know, for literally the last 33 years, no federal funds have been used to provide for abortions. And we believe under this bill, as it currently stands, that that’s exactly what will happen.” [AUDIO]
